Bio

Oleg Firsin is an Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where he has taught econometrics and international trade theory. He has worked at UMBC since completing his Ph.D. studies in Applied Economics and Management at Cornell University in 2018. His research interests primarily lie at the intersection of labor economics and international trade. In particular, he has studied how immigrants promote trade, how immigration and offshoring interact in affecting native wages and how immigration and offshoring affect attitudes towards immigration. His most recent work investigates comparability of different measures of immigration attitudes and whether local attitudes towards immigrants affect immigrant location decisions.
