Robin Savinar is a doctoral student in the Department of Sociology. Her dissertation will describe the occupational experiences of high-skilled migrant workers in the United States. Robin is exploring how the U.S.’ H-1B temporary visa program for ‘specialty occupations’ affects migrant workers’ terms of employment and their career trajectories. She will examine how high-skilled migrant workers respond to their position in the U.S. labor market, and the strategies that they use to improve their circumstances and to maintain the meaning of their work.
