The 4th Summer School on the Economics of Migration lasted for four days and took place at Casa de California, Mexico City, from July 21 to July 24, 2025.
Building on the success of previous years, this edition was open to PhD students and Post-Docs from institutions across North and Latin America. A new addition for the 2025 program was the inclusion of early-career scholars, including assistant professors and researchers from national and international agencies, which further enriched the research community.
In the morning, each faculty member delivered a lecture on the frontier of research in their specific topic. In the afternoon, selected students presented their own research ideas or drafts and received feedback from faculty. The school's atmosphere encouraged conversation and feedback in small groups. Students and faculty shared meals together, fostering the development of mentoring relationships and networks among peers. The program also featured evening sessions with guest speakers and a field trip to a site of cultural interest.
Faculty and Topics:
- Giovanni Peri (UC Davis): Immigrants and Labor Markets: Methods and Analysis
- Catalina Amuedo-Dorantes (UC Merced): Policies and Integration of Immigrants
- Santiago Pérez (UC Davis): Selection and Economic Success of Migrants and 2nd Generation
- Anna Maria Mayda (Georgetown University): Immigration and Political Economy
Thirty participants were admitted to the 4th Summer School, including 20 PhD students (2nd–6th year) and Post-Docs, as well as 10 early-career scholars. Admission was highly competitive, based on CVs and research proposals submitted from institutions across the Americas.
Thanks to the generous support of University of California Alianza MX and the Bryan C. Cameron Endowed Chair in International Economics at UC Davis, admitted PhD students and Post-Docs had their stay at Krystal Grand Suites Insurgentes, meals, and classes fully covered.
