From Return to Reintegration: Understanding the Early Trajectories of Returned Migrants in Honduras

Abstract :

We will present new evidence on the reintegration of returned migrants in Honduras, drawing on the first longitudinal follow-up study implemented through the country’s reception system for returnees. The analysis highlights how forced return shapes returnees’ initial economic, social, and psychological conditions, and documents the significant challenges many face in accessing employment, stabilizing household income, and reconnecting with local services. The talk will also examine the critical role of reception centers and administrative data systems, particularly the SIAMIR platform, in generating insights that inform policy design. By combining high-frequency survey data with detailed administrative records, the study provides an unprecedented view into how returnees navigate the first months after repatriation and which institutional arrangements most effectively support their reintegration.
