2nd Summer School on the "Economics of Migration"

The Global Migration Center, joint with University of California Alianza MX, organizes the 2nd Summer School on the "Economics of Migration" to be held on September 11-14 2023, in Mexico City.

Eligibility: Economics PhD Students enrolled in any US and Mexican institution, currently in their 2nd-6th year, and Post-Docs, interested in economics of migration, who are starting to work on a research plan/idea. Preference will be given to PhD students and Post-Docs at any University of California, and to PhD students in Mexican Universities.

Structure: The Summer School will last four days. In the morning each faculty member will lecture on the frontier of research in their specific topic. In the afternoon students will present their own research ideas/draft and will receive feedback from faculty. The atmosphere of the school will stimulate conversation and feedback in small groups, and meals together between students and faculty will foster the development of mentoring relationships and networks among peers.

  • Tuesday, Sept. 6th: Giovanni Peri (UC Davis): Immigrants, firms and labor markets
  • Wednesday, Sept. 7th: Enrico Moretti (UC Berkeley): Human capital mobility and economic agglomerations
  • Thursday, Sept. 8th: Catalina Amuedo-Dorantes (UC Merced): Policies and integration of immigrants
  • Friday, Sept. 9th: Santiago Pérez (UC Davis): Selection and economic success of migrants and 2nd generation

Attendees: There will be 20-25 students admitted. The stay at the Ranch, meals and classes will be fully covered for admitted students, thanks to the generous support of University of California Alianza MX. Students will need to arrange their own transportation to Sonoma. Organizers will facilitate carpooling from the San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento area.

Admission: Competitive based on CV and research proposal. Applicants should submit their application at this link, uploading their CV and one draft of a paper (if available) or a one-page proposal of their research. They may also include a letter of recommendation of one advisor (optional). The letter of recommendation should be sent to gperi@ucdavis.edu.
