Migrant deaths in Mexico put spotlight on US policy that shifted immigration enforcement south

GMC affiliate Raquel Aldana for The Conversation. In this article, she discusses the 39 migrant deaths that occurred in a detention facility in Ciudad Juárez. She further speaks on the realities that the migrants face in the detention facilities despite having immigration policies in place to prevent unjust treatment. As well as the type of policies that “have either forced migrants presenting themselves at the U.S. southern border to apply for asylum while remaining in Mexico or expelled them back to their countries of origin”.
