Robert McKee Irwin awarded a Grant through UC Berkeley's Health Initiative of the Americas

Robert McKee Irwin and co-PI Juan Antonio Del Monte of the Observatorio de Legislación y Política Migratoria of El Colegio de la Frontera Norte have been awarded a Programa de Investigación en Migración y Salud (PIMSA) grant through UC Berkeley's Health Initiative of the Americas for their project "Migrants and Covid-19 in Tijuana: Digital Stories," which they will realize under the auspices of the Humanizing Deportation project.

 

Angel Desai named as Stephen M Kellen Term Member for the Council on Foreign Relations

Congratulations to GMC Affiliate Dr. Angel Desai for her recent nomination as a Stephen M. Kellen Term Member for the Council of Foreign Relations! From the website, "The Stephen M. Kellen Term Member Program provides young professionals in government, media, nongovernmental organizations, law, business, finance, and academia the opportunity to participate in a sustained conversation on international affairs and U.S. foreign policy.

Santiago Perez for the Hellman Fellowship

Congratulations to GMC Affiliate Santiago Perez for being awarded a Hellman Fellowship for his joint work with Diana Moreira! The Hellman Fellows Program recognizes early-career faculty and awards grantees with funding toward their research. 

Caitlin Patler, Erin Hamilton, and Robin Savinar have been awarded the 2021 "Best Publication Award" from the American Sociological Association Sociology of Mental Health Section

Patler, Hamilton, and Savinar's publication "The Limits of Gaining Rights while Remaining Marginalized: The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Program and the Psychological Wellbeing of Latina/o Undocumented Youth" has been deemed the best publication of 2021 American Sociological Association Sociology of Mental Health Section. The award ceremony will take place on Monday, August 9. The logistics of the location and time are yet to be determined, but we will be sure to provide an update when more information is released! 

Caitlin Patler Receives Russell Sage Foundation Grant

GMC Executive Committee member Caitlin Patler has recently received a grant from the Russell Sage Foundation along with project member Dr. Altaf Saadi of the Harvard Medical School for their project documenting the effects of migrant incarceration on wellbeing, employment, physical and mental health, and more.

GMC Affiliate Joanna Regulska named founding member of the National Academy for International Education

GMC Affiliate Joanna Regulska, vice provost and dean of Global Affairs, has been named one of 23 founding members of the National Academy for International Education, an honorary society and think tank. The first learned society of its kind, the academy comprises leaders in international education from all over the world, including Australia, Canada, China, Ghana, Japan, Taiwan and the United States.

Zofia Wlodarczyk awarded 2021-2022 AAUW International Fellowship

The GMC would like to congratulate affiliate Zofia Wlodarczyk for receiving this prestigious fellowship. Founded in 1881, the American Association of University Women has been one of the largest funders of women's graduate education, investing in women such as Zofia who go on to change the world.
