GMC Deputy Director Robert McKee Irwin has obtained a “Mobilities to Mexico” seed grant from Alianza UCMX to send five graduate students from his Humanizando la Deportación team to carry out field research this summer in Tijuana, where they will work with colleagues from El Colegio de la Frontera Norte, focusing principally on documenting the experiences of asylum seekers.

GMC program coordinator, Giuseppe Ippedico was awarded an Early Career Research Award by the W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research to pursue research on the topic “The Employment and Wage Effects of Tax-Induced Migration”. Congratulations. 

UC Davis School of Law Dean and GMC affiliate Kevin R. Johnson wins the Michael A. Olivas Award. Johnson is winning this award for demonstrating an Outstanding Leadership in Diversity and Mentoring in the Legal Academy from the Association of American Law Schools.

Robert McKee Irwin and co-PI Juan Antonio Del Monte of the Observatorio de Legislación y Política Migratoria of El Colegio de la Frontera Norte have been awarded a Programa de Investigación en Migración y Salud (PIMSA) grant through UC Berkeley's Health Initiative of the Americas for their project "Migrants and Covid-19 in Tijuana: Digital Stories," which they will realize under the auspices of the Humanizing Deportation project.
